La spilla, del XIX secolo, è realizzata in stile archeologico, tendenza sviluppata nel corso del 1800 dalla famiglia Castellani che, sulla scia dei coevi ritrovamenti di arte etrusca, diede vita a una manifattura orafa contraddistinta da preziose lavorazioni a filigrana e un ricco decorativismo. Questi elementi sono ravvisabili altresì in questa spilla che, al centro, è caratterizzata dalla testa di un ariete, la quale emerge da un tappeto fiorito minuziosamente descritto e racchiuso all’interno di un ovale con filigrane. La parte superiore, invece, si distingue per la presenza di un ulteriore applicazione a semicerchio che termina con due teste di ariete, le quali tengono sospese due gocce d’oro articolate a forma d’anfora che si pongono in relazione con la goccia centrale. Colpisce l’eccellente condizione conservativa e la maestria con cui i dettagli zoomorfi e floreali sono descritti, denotando un’elevata abilità orafa ravvisabile ugualmente nella minuziosa filigrana che costituisce la bordatura della spilla.

The 19th-century brooch is made in archaeological style, a trend developed during the 19th century by the Castellani family who, in the wake of contemporary Etruscan art discoveries, created a goldsmith's factory characterized by precious filigree workmanship and rich decorativism. These elements can also be seen in this brooch which, in the centre, is characterised by the head of a ram, which emerges from a minutely described flowering carpet enclosed within an oval with filigree. The upper part, however, is distinguished by the presence of an additional semicircular application that ends with two ram heads, which hold two articulated suspended gold drops in the shape of an amphora that are placed in relation to the central pendant. The excellent condition of conservation and the mastery with which the zoomorphic and floral details are described is remarkable, denoting a high goldsmith's skill equally recognizable in the meticulous filigree that constitutes the border of the brooch.
