Questo prezioso anello di manifattura ellenistica e databile al IV secolo a.C., è stato realizzato in oro e presenta una forma a losanga, sulla cui superficie sono incisi un pesce, sormontato da un crostaceo. Le rappresentazioni naturalistiche e zoomorfe nell'ambito dell'arte ellenistica sono documentate fin dal VI secolo a.C. e hanno conosciuto un significativo sviluppo prima di essere progressivamente soppiantate da raffigurazioni di divinità. Nel caso di questo anello, il crostaceo, probabilmente identificabile con un gambero, assume un valore simbolico di umiltà e rinascita correlato alla capacità rigenerativa del carapace; il pesce sottostante, invece, richiama i concetti di fertilità e abbondanza e rivestiva una funzione apotropaica, divenendo successivamente legato a divinità marine come Afrodite e Poseidone.

This precious ring of Hellenistic manufacture and dating back to the 4th century BC, is made of gold and has a lozenge shape, on the surface of which are engraved a fish, surmounted by a crustacean. Naturalistic and zoomorphic representations in Hellenistic art have been documented since the 6th century BC and experienced significant development before being progressively supplanted by depictions of divinities. In the case of this ring, the crustacean, probably identifiable with a shrimp, takes on a symbolic value of humility and rebirth related to the regenerative capacity of the carapace; the underlying fish, however, recalls the concepts of fertility and abundance and had an apotropaic function, subsequently becoming linked to marine divinities such as Aphrodite and Poseidon.
