Ancient Roman Gold Banded Agate Intaglio Ring Of A Sea Hare And Shell

Period: 3rd century AD

Finger size: 7

Weight: 4gr

The Roman intaglio of the Third century is made of agate and inserted in a gold frame characterized by a decoration with side volutes that further enhance the ring. The engraving depicts a sea hare emerging from a shell, both symbols associated with Venus: the shell, traditionally linked to the myth of the birth of Venus from the sea foam, it is configured as an emblem of rebirth both physical and spiritual and is well represented in the famous painting by Botticelli "The Birth of Venus".
