Questo rarissimo anello epigrafico, risalente al III secolo circa, è interamente realizzato in oro e intarsi in mastice nero, necessario per far risaltare le lettere inscritte. L’anello, inoltre, presenta una peculiare forma ottagonale necessaria, in questo frangente, per permettere una chiara e coerente scansione delle sillabe, le quali costituiscono l’abbreviazione delle parole che compongono il motto dell’anello epigrafico, ovvero una tipologia artistica che ha l’obiettivo di diffondere un messaggio ben preciso. Per quanto l’anello si conservi in un ottimo stato conservativo, permettendo una chiara lettura delle lettere, è possibile solamente supporre il significato reale del motto riportato che, in rapporto al periodo di produzione del manufatto, è ragionevole pensare che si tratti di un messaggio cristiano. Il motto inscritto si compone, infatti, delle seguenti lettere: IO/NAT/TI/CA/TI/TA/MA/RT, in cui si può ragionevolmente presumere che le prime due lettere siano da riferire al nome proprio latino Ioannes, in relazione dunque al Battista o all’Evangelista, sebbene sia solamente una supposizione. Infine, è necessario sottolineare la preziosità e la rarità di questo oggetto risalente al III secolo, testimonianza della civiltà romana, la quale spesso si avvaleva di iscrizioni che assumevano la valenza di amuleti necessari per tenere lontana la cattiva sorte.

This very rare epigraphic ring, dating around the 3rd century, is made entirely of gold and inlays in black mastic, necessary to make the inscribed letters stand out. Furthermore, the ring has a peculiar octagonal shape necessary, at this juncture, to allow a clear and coherent scanning of the syllables, which constitute the abbreviation of the words that make up the motto of the epigraphic ring, that is, an artistic typology that aims to spread a very specific message. Although the ring remains in an excellent state of preservation, allowing for a clear reading of the letters, it is only possible to assume the true meaning of the motto reported that, in relation to the period of production of the artefact, it is reasonable to think that it is a Christian message. The inscribed motto is, in fact, composed of the following letters: IO/NAT/TI/CA/TI/TA/MA/RT, in which it can reasonably be assumed that the first two letters refer to the Latin proper name Ioannes, therefore in relation to the Baptist or the Evangelist, although this is only a supposition. Finally, it is necessary to underline the preciousness and rarity of this object dating back to the 3rd century, a testimony to Roman civilization, which often made use of inscriptions that took on the value of amulets necessary to ward off bad luck.
