Il cammeo riporta l’incisione della Lupa Capitolina che allatta due bambini, Romolo e Remo, di cui il primo è ricordato per essere il fondatore della città di Roma e suo primo re. Dunque, la scelta di rappresentare uno dei momenti più importanti della storia romana è da leggersi come un’esaltazione della creazione della città che diventerà il centro dell’Impero Romano.

The cameo bears the engraving of the Capitoline Wolf breastfeeding two children, Romulus and Remus, of whom the first is remembered for being the founder of the city of Rome and its first king.
