L’anello è caratterizzato da un nicolo, tipicamente un intaglio in onice di piccole dimensioni, risalente al I-II secolo raffigurante il profilo di Faustina minore, imperatrice romana della dinastia degli Antonini, figlia dell’imperatore Antonino Pio e di Faustina maggiore, nonché moglie dell’imperatore Marco Aurelio. L’intaglio del nicolo colpisce per la sua elevata qualità artistica che permette una corretta identificazione del soggetto, tenendo conto delle dimensioni ridotte dell'onice su cui è stato inciso, peraltro creando un interessante contrasto tra una tonalità più chiara di antracite e una tonalità più scura che emerge nell’incisione. Il nicolo, inoltre, è incastonato in una montatura in oro giallo successiva che contribuisce ad arricchire il decorativismo dell’anello, giacché presenta una scanalatura nella parte inferiore del gambo, il quale termina, nella parte superiore, con una decorazione floreale in cui si scorge una ghianda e una bordatura scanalata in prossimità dell’onice inciso. 

The ring is characterised by a nicolo, typically a small onyx intaglio, dating from the 1st-2nd century depicting the profile of Faustina the Younger, Roman empress of the Antonine dynasty, daughter of Emperor Antoninus Pius and Faustina the Elder, and wife of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The intaglio of the nicolo is striking for its high artistic quality, which allows a correct identification of the subject, considering the small size of the onyx on which it was engraved, also creating an interesting contrast between a lighter shade of anthracite and a darker shade that emerges in the engraving. The nicolo is also set in a later yellow gold setting which contributes to enriching the decorativeness of the ring, as it has a groove in the lower part of the stem, which ends, in the upper part, with a floral decoration in which emerges an acorn, instead a fluted border can be seen near the engraved onyx.
