Questo delizioso cammeo romano del II secolo è realizzato in lapislazzuli ed è inserito in una montatura in oro 18 carati contemporanea sebbene riprenda lo stile anticheggiante che veniva adottato al tempo per oggetti di produzione orafa; infatti, la montatura essenziale è contraddistinta solamente da una scanalatura nella parte superiore che incornicia perfettamente il cammeo, contribuendo a esaltare la raffigurazione. Il lapislazzuli, difatti, è impreziosito da una tenera raffigurazione di Cupido bambino, raffigurato di profilo e riconoscibile dalle piccole ali che spuntano dalla sua schiena: egli era figlio di Venere e Marte, nella maggior parte dei casi viene raffigurato nelle sue sembianze infantili e, solo più raramente, da adulto perché spesso associato al gioco e allo scherno, spesso capriccioso ma dio per eccellenza dell’amore. 

This delightful 2^nd century Roman cameo is made of lapislazuli and is inserted in a 18 carat contemporary gold setting which recalls the antique style that was adopted for goldsmith objects; in fact, the essential setting is characterized only by a groove on the upper part which frames perfectly the cameo, helping to enhance the representation. The lapslazuli, although, is embellished by a sweet image of Cupid as a child, depicted in profile and recognizable by the small wings that emerge from his back: he was the son of Venus and Mars, most of the time he is depicted in his childhood and, rarely, as an adult because he is often associated with game and mockery, often capricious and par excellence god of love.
