Period: 3rd century
Ring size: 9 ¼
Weight: 11 gr
The ring is composed of a 19th-century yellow gold setting, in which is set a Roman amethyst intaglio dated to the 3rd century. The intaglio is decorated with an engraving of the profile of a man, portrayed with compact hair and a thick beard, meticulously described. The facial features are also detailed, starting from the eyebrow arch, the eyes, the long, tapered nose and the protruding lips, demonstrating the great skill and quality of the engraver. The gold frame, on the other hand, has a polygonal shape, with the lateral shoulders of the stem flat and chamfered, while the upper part, where the intaglio is set, has a flat and slightly protruding round bezel. The ring is in excellent conservative condition, fully compatible with its dating, therefore, any signs present testify the centuries-old history of the object.
