Description
The pendant, dated to the 1970s and made of brown agate, represents a manus fica, an iconography that spread in Roman and Etruscan eras, when these objects were considered talismans attributed with apotropaic powers of protection from misfortune and evil spirits, as well as a fertility value, which was considered a good omen. The manus fica, in this case, is further embellished with 18-karat gold details: an opal ring has been placed on the ring finger; the wrist is adorned with a bracelet set with two side diamonds and a central opal; the upper part, where the pendant buttonhole is placed, is decorated with a gold applique with a perforated motif alternating emeralds and diamonds: the larger teardrop-shaped central emerald creates a beautiful contrast with the vivid pink of rhodochrosite. The high engraving quality of the object is evident, in which the fingers, knuckles and the position of the hand itself are characterised by great naturalness.
