Description

The ring, dated to the mid-19th century, features a rock crystal intaglio set in a coeval setting. The intaglio, therefore, features a peculiar engraving associated with the monotheistic Bahai religion born in 19th-century in Iran, which supports the existence of a single God, the same spiritual origin as all religions, and the fact that all men are considered equal before God. This religion uses several pictograms, including the one engraved in the aforementioned intaglio, a symbol of the relationship between God and humanity: the lower line represents humanity, the upper line the Creator, while the central line is a symbol of God's manifestations; the central line, with a unifying function, is instead a symbol of the Holy Spirit descending upon humanity as God's revelation. The intaglio is completed by the presence of two five-pointed stars engraved on the sides which, instead, are symbols of the human body and, more generally, of Adam and Eve. This symbol was often engraved above the rings which, once worn, determined membership in the Bahai religion.
