The ancient Roman ring, dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries, was made of silver and gold in Roman times. In the upper part there is a phallic depiction which, although it may seem controversial nowadays, in ancient times was widely spread and used because it brought good fortune. The Romans, in fact, used this iconography to protect themselves from the oculus malignus (evil eye), which was linked to the cult of the god Priapus, a divinity associated with fertility. Ultimately, wearing these phallic representations led to distracting the gaze of the enchanters, defending against evil spells.
