L’anello georgiano del XVIII secolo è realizzato in argento e oro e tempestato di diamanti taglio rosa i quali, oltre a costituire la duplice bordatura esterna, compongono altresì l’immagine di un’urna che si staglia al di sopra di un vetro blu scuro. La peculiare scelta di rappresentare un’urna è data dalla funzione commemorativa dell’anello, si tratta infatti di un’iconografia che si diffuse ampiamente a partire dalla metà del XVIII secolo grazie al rinnovato entusiasmo ed interesse nei confronti dell’arte antica greca e romana. L’anello è altresì impreziosito da una pregiata lavorazione a volute del gambo, la quale conferisce ulteriore decorativismo e raffinatezza all’oggetto, così come il verso, dove si scorgono delle incisioni con motivi floreali che richiamano il concetto del Memento Mori, ovvero la caducità della vita.  

The 18th-century Georgian ring is made of silver and gold and studded with rose-cut diamonds which, in addition to forming the double outer border, also form the image of an urn standing out above a dark blue glass. The peculiar choice to represent an urn is given by the commemorative function of the ring, it is in fact an iconography that spread widely starting from the mid-18th century thanks to the renewed enthusiasm and interest in ancient Greek and Roman art. The ring is also embellished with a fine scrollwork of the stem, which gives further decorativism and refinement to the object, as does the reverse, where engravings with floral motifs can be seen that recall the concept of the Memento Mori, or the transience of life.
