The ring, from the late 18th century, is composed of an 18-karat yellow gold setting in which an agate cameo is set. The cameo features a male profile finely characterized by curly hair, hollow eyes, an aquiline nose and a pronounced jaw, aspects that would lead to identifying the man with Cicero, a famous Roman orator, politician and philosopher active between 81 and 43 BC. The cameo has a very high engraving quality, as can be seen from the finely investigated and in-depth somatic features, which leads to giving Cicero's profile a great vitality. In addition to the excellent state of preservation, the skillful use of the different layers of agate color is evident, which has allowed the emphasis of the subject, whose whiteness stands out against a refined gray-blue background. Furthermore, the use of the two layers of color has allowed the engraver to infuse the subject with a strong plasticity and three-dimensionality that contribute to giving vigor to the profile elements that provide to making this cameo precious and unique.
