Coral is the color of blood, the life force that protects against disease. It was very popular in jewelry from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century across Europe. The Victorians had a deep love for coral jewelry and dressed their children in it for protection. You will also find baby rattles and bite objects made of coral. Most of the coral came from the Naples region of Italy and the Italians were the master craftsmen and sculptors.
